"Part of the Solution"

I believe that a major part of the reason for America’s depart from the solid spiritual ground of morality to the unstable ground of the miry pit of immorality was due to the American church not developing a personality psychology, which the modern age required in order to establish a foundation upon which to utilize the vast amount of information that would come forth in the modern age, resulting in creating worlds yet undreamed of.

God, who has never left humanity without answers to its situations, has not left humanity without an answer to its self-identity. Neither has He left it without an understanding of the structure, the functionality, and the nature of that self-identity. God’s answer is in His word. It must be brought forth to His people, so that they can understand themselves in light of His word, and not have to turn to the world of the atheist in trying to understand the life of the believer.

I want to share with you this most important biblical truth as the Spirit of the Lord has shared it with me. As it stands right now, there is no personality psychology based upon a biblical model from which to develop an understanding of the believer and his/her relationship to the Lord. Without this biblical model the church can only hope to present a message to the world that leaves much to be desired when it comes to understanding one’s "self." Many may not agree with me in the message as I will present it, but few will disagree with me that such a message is sorely needed.

How important is it that such a biblical understanding of the "self" be developed? And how might that knowledge affect the community at large? Look at it this way. All government programs in education and social services are based upon an atheistic philosophy and a humanless psychology. The secular philosophy states that there is no God. The humanless psychology states that the individual is "just an animal of a higher order." That there is no "inward person" per se. Therefore the idea of "accountability" to a Creator is out of the question. The idea of a "judgment day" is out of the question. Life ends at the grave. So, the way to develop an understanding of the individual is to study the animal kingdom. That was the approach of personality and educational psychology that was taught in the nation beginning about 1915. It sprang forth from Columbia University in New York City. However, it is seldom told that in 1955 those who worked in areas of psychology declared in a meeting at MIT that the whole system was a failure in explaining the dynamic of human personality. That declaration did not come from the church. That declaration came from the secular community that was attempting to implement the teachings of the psychologists. It came from the community of the secularist psychologist themselves. In making that declaration, they also realized that they did not know of another direction to move in. It remained so until the early part of the ’80’s, when a group of psychologist decided to study the human being instead of some animal, and they called it "cognitive psychology." However, they held to the atheistic philosophy of "no god." and the humanless psychology of "soullessness." And by 1980, those two teachings had full control of every area of the American society.

That is where the Christian community comes in. The community of believers have in their hands the writings from which a biblical understanding of one’s own existence and the personality of that existence can be developed. The presentation of that body of knowledge can be given to the secular community as a testimony to the credibility of the word of God.
